The Health Economics and Policy Evaluation Group (HEPEG) is a non-partisan research organization focused on conducting rigorous economic analyses and evaluations of health policies and programs.

Our core focus areas include pharmaceutical policy, health insurance reform, health care services, value-based payment programs, public health interventions, health disparities, and more. HEPEG's team is comprised of economists, statisticians, and health services researchers.

We organize and highlight events such as workshop,  conferences and seminars.

Paola Bertoli

Full Professor at University of Verona

Paola is Full Professor in Economics at the University of Verona, Department of Economics. Previously, she was Assistant Professor at the Prague University of Economics and Business and at Charles University. Her main research interests are in Health Economics, Public Economics and Political Economy.

Luigi Boggian

Research Fellow at University of Verona

Since November 2023 he joined the Horizon Europe project FLASH at the University of Verona. Previously, he was a FNRS-FRESH Fellow and visiting PhD at Pompeu Fabra. His research focuses on healthcare inequalities between immigrants and natives in Europe, with focus on forgone care, cardiovascular risk factors and mental health.

Alessandro Bucciol

Professor at University of Verona and Research Fellow at Netspar

Since 2021, he has been coordinating the PhD program in Economics and Finance. He earned a PhD in Economics and Management (2007) from the University of Padua. He conducted research at MIT and the University of Amsterdam. His research focuses on household savings choices, the impact of public and environmental policies, and the economics of dishonesty.   

Giulia De Matteis

Jr Research Fellow at University of Verona

She is a Junior Research Fellow at the Department of Economics - University of Verona, for the Horizon Europe project "FLASH - FLexible Approaches to Support Health through financing". She holds a Master of Science in Health Economics from the University of York and a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Padua.

Maurizio Malpede

Assistant Professor at University of Verona and Research Fellow at EIEE

He is Assistant Professor at the University of Verona and Research Fellow at the European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE).  He holds a PhD in Economics jointly awarded by Cattolica University and Bicocca University. His research focuses on historical roots of development and the impacts of climate change and resource extraction in developing countries.

Eleonora Matteazzi

Assistant Prof. at University of Verona

She is a researcher at the Department of Economics of the University of Verona. She holds a PhD in Economics at the University of Cergy-Pontoise (France) and at the University of Verona (Italy). Her research interests are in household behavior and family economics, time allocation and labor supply, welfare economics and relational well-being, gender discrimination and working conditions in the labor market. 

Giulia Montresor

Postdoc at University of Verona

Giulia is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Economics at the University of Verona. Previously she was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Economics at the University of Mannheim. Her main research interests are in the fields of Labor Economics, Health Economics, Migration and Development Economics.

Catia Nicodemo

Associate Prof. at University of Verona, Senior Research Fellow at University of Oxford

She is Associate Prof at the University of Verona, Department of Economics & Senior Researcher Fellow at Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Science, Medical division, University of Oxford. Her research interests are: Applied Micro-Econometrics, Labor Economics, Health Economics, Big Data

Cristina Elisa Orso

Assistant Professor at University of Insubria

Assistant Professor in Public Finance (Tenure-track) at University of Insubria and Member of the Scientific Committee of the Center for Analysis and Research in Applied Economics of Ca' Foscari University. Previously, she was Assistant Professor at the University of Verona and Research Fellow at Ca' Foscari University. Her main research interests are in health economics, migration, gender and economics of ageing.

Lucia Schiavon

Postdoc at Cà Foscari Venice and Research Fellow at CHILD

She is a Postdoctoral researcher at University of Verona, research fellow at CHILD – Collegio Carlo Alberto and member of the Impact Evaluation Unit of Fondazione Collegio Carlo Alberto. Her research interests lie in Policy Evaluation, Health, Education and Family Economics.

Khalid W.A. Shomali

Postdoc at University of Verona

Khalid is a postdoc at the Department of Economics of the University of Verona. Formerly, he was a postdoc in the Department of Economics at the University of Ca' Foscari of Venice. In 2021 he earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Perugia and was a visiting Ph.D. student at CRES of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Rome). His main research interests are in the fields of Health Economics, Migration and Labour Economics.
